South Table Mtn

South Table Mountain is one of those rides on the outskirts of Golden that is usually avoided by most and all. Its got a few cool climbs and descents to and from the top but once your up there, its flat and if a good Colorado wind is blowing, downright miserable.

Saturday morning I was helping the Mad Scientist with his move to his brand new home. I woke up at 5am and didn't need to be to his place till 8am. I lallygagged a bit before deciding I needed to get a ride in. The Mad Scientist's old place sits right at the base of South Table so I decided to head over and get a quick ride in.

The great thing about South Table Mtn compared to other Front Range trails is that it dries out quick and is usually snow free before any other Front Range Ride.

Climbing up you get some great views of Denver. Call it fog or mist but I'm sure its still a bit of smog. I used Picasa to blur the edges of this picture and I dig the results.

Look closely and you may spot a deer

I still miss the trees of the east coast and while the mountains still get me within the stands, the rare lone tree on the front range still has its appeal

Ancient Tree

Nearing the end of my ride I spot a lone figure atop a hill with no trail to it. Hitching my bike on my bike I find the solitary hunter

Finishing my ride I cut through a Townhome complex to the Mad Scientist's place. Jumping a curb I hit a patch of ice on the far side parking lot, sliding my bike under a parked truck. No harm, no foul, least the truck wasn't moving.

Is that solitary hunter on top of STM? It looks familiar from somewhere else, but don't think I've seen it up there.
